Stop the cap-and-trade scam

A friend sent this to me.

Thanks Eddie

Sign the petition opposing cap and trade policies.
Protect American jobs, energy, and prosperity from global warming hype.
Efforts to control man-made “greenhouse gases” through mandatory policies like cap and trade are nothing more than “All Pain, No Gain” – all economic pain for no environmental gain.

Energy Tax:  Proposals like cap and trade are simply a massive tax on energy use – on everything we heat, cool, drive, make, grow, eat, and do – and will therefore cause the price of everything to skyrocket.
Hurts Americans: These proposals will harm all Americans by exorbitantly raising gasoline prices and utility bills, sending jobs overseas, perpetuating the myth that “green jobs” will grow our economy, and acting as a huge “regressive tax” that will especially hurt the poor and our nation’s seniors on fixed incomes. Haitians and Immigration Policy

I have several questions regarding this issue.  First are we going  to set a permanent  policy, that will allow every refugee from every natural or man made disaster to get a pass on breaking our laws?  What is the number of illegal Haitians and what will be the policy for Haitian criminals? After serving a sentence, will they be allowed loose or deported?  Will we allow orphan children from around the world to migrate here? I am sure there are a million or more African, Asian and Middle Eastern orphans across the planet. Should they be allowed to immigrate too?

Be sure to vote in the new poll!

Church, immigrant groups plan to airlift Haitian orphans to South Florida

Sun Sentinel/ Miami Herald

In a move mirroring Operation Pedro Pan in the 1960s, Catholic Charities and other South Florida immigrant rights organizations are planning an ambitious effort to airlift possibly thousands of Haitian children left orphaned in the aftermath of Tuesday’s horrific earthquake. Exposing the ’secure our borders’ lie

VIN SUPRYNOWICZ

Las Vegas Review-Journal

President Barack Obama said some interesting things in his Jan. 27 State of the Union address. They’re interesting not so much because they’re lies, but because the political class — the kind of people who field lobbyists in Washington and file lawsuits for the ACLU and edit major American newspapers — was so confident that these utterances were lies that it simply ignored what might otherwise have been some earthshaking developments.

For instance, the president said, according to the White House’s prepared transcript: “We should continue the work of fixing our broken immigration system — to secure our borders, enforce our laws, and ensure that everyone who plays by the rules can contribute to our economy and enrich our nation.”

I agree with that. I suspect Jim Gilchrist of the border-watching Minuteman Project could happily agree with that.

The only people who don’t agree with those words are Barack Obama and his liberal cohorts in Congress. Continue reading Exposing the ’secure our borders’ lie

‘Temporary refugees’ never go home

Tom Tancredo

WND

Like most “emergency” programs set up by government, the benefits of gaining “Temporary Protected Status,” or TPS, as a refugee do not expire when the emergency has passed. In government jargon, “temporary” can be 20 years – or forever.

The federal government has no system for tracking people previously awarded TPS since its inception in 1990. Thus, there is no way of knowing the total number of individuals now residing in the United States who first arrived under the TPS program, nor is there any reliable data on what percentage of TPS refugees eventually return home. But the nation’s experience with the first decade of the program led the Center for Immigration Studies to conclude, “In the real world, there is nothing as permanent as a temporary refugee.”

Within hours of the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti, President Obama announced the awarding of Temporary Protected Status to Haitians in the United States – people here illegally before the earthquake, a number variously estimated at 100,000 to 200,000. Indeed, over the past 20 years, most TPS recipients were people already in the county, not people fleeing a disaster.

Thus, while the program is largely defended on the humanitarian grounds of offering temporary safety to genuine refugees, it is undeniable that historically, the main function of the TPS program has been to protect illegal aliens – people already here and thus not directly affected by any natural disaster – from the threat of deportation. Illegal Immigration – A Crime That Pays

Spencer Price

Illegal Alien News Update

When I was a kid I often heard the saying, “Crime doesn’t pay.” And back then, such was usually the case. Though there were most certainly exceptions, in general, it seemed to me as though most criminals eventually paid for their crimes. And back then, it also seemed to me that most people believed that’s the way it should be. Boy, how things have changed.

Nowadays, there appears to be a growing number of people who believe criminals should not have to pay for certain crimes. By justifying these crimes in their own minds, they dismiss the impact the crimes have on society at large and, in time, come to view the crime as no crime at all. The most obvious modern example of such a crime is illegal immigration. Continue reading Illegal Immigration – A Crime That Pays

US food stamps set ever-higher record-32.8 million

Reuters
WASHINGTON, Feb 5 (Reuters) – A record 38.2 million Americans were enrolled in the food stamp program at latest count, up 246,000 from the previous month and the latest in record-high monthly tallies that began in December 2008.
Food stamps are the primary federal anti-hunger program, helping poor people buy groceries. The Agriculture Department updated enrollment data on Friday with a preliminary figure for November.
USDA estimates up to $58 billion will be spent on food stamps this fiscal year, which ends Sept 30, with average enrollment of 40.5 million people. Food stamps were renamed the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program in 2008.
Participation has surged since the financial-market turmoil of late 2008 and has set records each month since December 2008, when it reached 31.78 million. Enrollment is highest during times of economic distress. (Reporting by Charles Abbott; Editing by David Gregorio)

5 Myths About White House Immigration Reform

James Carafano

The Heritage Foundation

1. There will be lots of positive measures in the bill that conservatives will support.

That does not matter. A massive amnesty will overwhelm all the positive affects of visa reforms, added security workplace enforcement , and even establishing temporary worker programs. That is exactly what happened when the same approach was tried in 1986.

2. The first thing we have to do is deal with the illegal population that is already here.

Wrong. Starting with amnesty will pretty much insure that none of the other issues get addressed. Once the “800 lbs guerrilla” is off the table the left will lose all interest in immigration and border security.

3. Legalization is not amnesty.

Wrong. It is. No matter how its portrayed-rewarding people who broke the law by allowing them to stay here lawfully will only encourage more illegal migration.

4. There is no alternative to amnesty.

Wrong a phased approach to implementing reforms will address the underlying problems driving illegal immigration-that should be first priority.

5. Conservatives are part of the party of NO. They have no compassion, no sense of doing what’s fair.

Wrong. Conservatives believe that America is and should remain a “nation of immigrants” But the challenge of illegal immigration must be addressed in a manner that respects the rule of law, protects our sovereignty and security and gets employees employers need to grow the economy.

DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO

Michael LeMieux
NewsWithViews.com

The elitist mentality that exists in Washington DC is becoming more and more visible. It is not that this is something new; quite the contrary. We all know of the double standard that has dominated the political strata of Congress voting for their own pay raises while denying Medicare or Social Security cost of living raises to the American people. Or the haranguing of auto company executives for flying company jets to a meeting on the hill but a few months later the DC elites are doing the same thing as well as taking junkets around the world at the taxpayer’s expense. At least the auto company exec’s used their own money.

For many who have grown up in the previous generation, the 50’s and 60’s, we are reminded by what some of us have come to know as “Do as I say, not as I do” scenario. It seems the power elite in Washington have become replacements for the parents of the entire country and after all they know what is best for us. Don’t they?

We have heard from President Obama over the last 12 months such things as:

Make government fiscally responsible & live within budget. (Oct 2008)
Every citizen should save energy & resources. (Oct 2008)
You don’t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas. (May 2009 & Feb 2010)
American people are cutting back on everything (Mar 2009)
Americans to support a “new spirit of sacrifice.” (Nov 2008)
With respect to the American people, I think folks are sacrificing left and right (Mar 2009)

And the list goes on and on as to what he expects of the American people and the sacrifices we should be making; but as for himself and Washington, not so much.

Since taking office the Obama’s have held at least monthly parties, and at times weekly parties, with a cost to the taxpayers in the millions. These parties have included numerous live bands and lavish stage sets and one outdoor party that accommodated thousands of people with Greek Columns to set the mood.

He has taken numerous trips both overseas and within the United States with his wife and occasionally with his children all at the taxpayers’ expense.

At a time of economic crisis the government, under the reins of President Obama, has spent record levels of the taxpayers’ funds while advocating the rest of the country tightens our belts. In my humble opinion this smacks of Nero fiddling while Rome burns.

It is becoming more and more apparent that those that are supposed to be representing the people of this nation have little in common with the average American. As an example; the average American would not presume that their job would entitle them to free transportation yet Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, demanded and got a brand new jet airliner because she didn’t want to ride in the military jet. On top of that she has used the jet to fly family members, children and grandchildren, across the United States, again at taxpayer expense.

We keep hearing day in and day out how Americans need to tighten our belts, live within a budget, don’t take a vacation in Vegas and blow our money away. All in all good advice when in an economic crisis but then we are also told that we are now recovering from that economic crisis and what aided that recovery was spending money provided by the government. So either the government’s money is somehow magical in its ability to remedy our financial crisis and ours is somehow tainted and spending our money the way WE want to will again destroy the economy OR we are being fed a line to manipulate us into doing what they say but not as they do?

To me leadership was never a trickle up process but always emanated from the leader and was enforced by the example set by that leader. Many of us can recall our father or grandfather telling us not to smoke while he puffed away on his Lucky Strikes. Now the advice was good yet the example carried more weight, at least it did for me, as I saw Dad puff away I wanted to be more like my role model and I eventually took up the habit. (Luckily I was smart enough to quite a few years later.)

The point is that for the government to insist that the recession is over and at the same time tell us we need to budget and not spend our money on things THEY don’t want us to spend it on while all the while they are spending millions on international junkets, parties, lavish jet airliners, and personal benefits that the rest of society can only dream of is at best hypocritical and at worst borderline criminal – after all its our money isn’t it?

We need to demand the same fiscal responsibility of our government that they demand of us. Stop spending what you do not have money for. If you or I cannot afford a new car we get a used one, and if we cant afford a used one we fix the one we have. The place for the government to start revitalizing the economy is not in Congress or even in Washington DC – it is to leave the American people more of their own resources so THEY can do what needs to be done.

Stop trying to fix the world until we first fix our own problems. If you are facing bankruptcy and your neighbor asks for a 10,000 loan would you go take out a loan to give to him? I think most of us would recognize that as a bad thing to do; so why does our government not recognize that?

Brown to campaign for McCain

So much for not being part of the establishment!   We will have to watch this and see what happens. I think this is a big mistake by both Scott and Palin. Perhaps they are both getting paid?

Alexander Mooney

(CNN) – The newest member of the Senate will soon hit the 2010 campaign trail for Arizona Sen. John McCain.

A McCain source confirms Sen. Scott Brown, R-Massachusetts, will campaign with the 2008 Republican presidential nominee in early March. McCain is facing a primary challenge from former Rep. J.D. Hayworth.

Brown rocketed to stardom in the Republican Party after scoring an upset victory in the Massachusetts special Senate election last month to fill the seat of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy. He was sworn into the chamber Thursday afternoon.

Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will also hit the campaign trail for McCain at the end of March.

Villaraigosa Orders 1,000 City Layoffs

Tony Spearman

MyFOXla.com

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Thursday ordered the layoffs of 1,000 city employees to help balance the city’s budget, although about 360 of the targeted employees may be able to transfer to other positions to avoid losing their jobs.

“Every day throughout our city, from breakfast tables to board rooms, Angelenos are working hard to make it through these tough economic times,” the mayor wrote on his Web site. “People are forced to make difficult choices every day. Families are examining their values and businesses and setting their priorities.

“Every budget is a balancing act,” he wrote. “Every budget is a statement of values. And every budget is an opportunity to secure our future.

Here at City Hall, it is no different. We are living beyond our means and have difficult choices to make. We must protect our economic future.”

Villaraigosa said he was exercising his authority as outlined in the city charter to take “immediate action toward balancing this fiscal year’s budget, strengthening the city’s credit rating and restoring the city’s long-term fiscal health.”

In addition to eliminating 1,000 filled positions, Villaraigosa called on the City Council to adopt an ordinance allowing city employees to retire without the usual 30- to 60-day advance application requirement, a step that would most early-retirement applicants off the city’s payroll by March 13.

He also asked the council to transfer $40 million in uncommitted funds to the city’s General Fund.

On Wednesday, the City Council — after hearing hours of impassioned testimony from city workers desperate to keep their jobs — voted unanimously not to implement any layoffs for 30 days, even though the city’s deficit had ballooned to $212 million and was expected to increase daily.

The reprieve was aimed at giving the council time to come up with alternative cost-cutting proposals that would minimize — perhaps even eliminate — what budget analysts said was a need to cut as many as 1,500 civilian jobs.

There were 27,592 people employed by the city government as of Dec. 1.

While Villaraigosa ordered the elimination of 1,000 filled positions, he said up to 360 of the affected workers could be eligible to transfer to
specially funded positions or other jobs that are not paid for by the city’s General Fund.

Employees interested in transferring to such positions will have until 5 p.m. Monday to do so.

“I do not relish these decisions,” Villaraigosa wrote. “But neither will I shy away from them or pretend they don’t exist. Angelenos all over our city are making tougher choices between food or their prescription drugs, between school supplies and a doctor visit for their child, between their electric bill and their rent. It is time we at city Hall follow their lead, set priorities and make the though choices necessary to protect our core responsibilities.”

How many illegal aliens are really inside the United States?

Dave Gibson

The Examiner

The federal government continues to tell us that there are 12 million illegal aliens currently living in the United States. However, the actual number in undoubtedly four to five times higher.

The way the feds arrive at their numbers is as absurd as their assertion that we can maintain law and order without actually defending our borders.

In 1986, President Ronald Reagan granted amnesty to the nation’s illegal alien population. At the time, we were told that population totaled between two to three million. However, amnesty was actually granted to more than five million who had crossed our borders illegally. Continue reading How many illegal aliens are really inside the United States?
