National ID Cards

Brad

WHG

Well as I expected there is much ado about the proposed national ID card as part of the Schumer/Graham amnesty. Now, I like most Americans do not like the Feds/ state or any other agency or business having info on me or for that info to become available to other interests.  But as we examine today’s society, how much privacy do we really enjoy? Our financial information is collected and reported to at least 3 big clearing houses. We have to submit records to have a child, to drive, to enroll our children into school,to get a visa or passport and for most of us to apply for a job. If we need government social service help, we are finger printed,  our income and household members names and SS numbers are required. Proof of residence is required to get a mailbox at the USPS. If you purchase real estate, life insurance or use a medical facility you information becomes part of a data base.

The idea of a national ID card is repulsive. But I believe we are already there. It is call a SS card.  As for personal information, a quick search with Google shows that there are numerous ways for people to obtain information about you legally. Information is in the public record and various other collection data bases.

So what about the idea of a national ID card? I don’t believe a new card is necessary. What I believe is that SS cards should be made at least as secure as credit cards or driver’s licenses. Of course those opposing anything that would be effective against identity thief, fraud or illegal workers will say the cards could be forged. Well that is indeed possible, but it doesn’t stop credit card companies from doing billions of dollars of business using semi secure cards. It doesn’t stop states from licensing people to drive in their state, or allowing those licenses to be used for identification.

SS cards should be made more secure. A picture and thumb print along with a magnetic  strip with encrypted number would go along way to prevent fraud, identity theft and illegals in the work place. If the government is not going to make the cards secure and protect identities, then those cards/SS numbers should not be used as an identifier for the IRS, credit and other functions or services.

On the use of a card as a provision of CIR,  it is a scam. A national ID card would be challenged by various groups on privacy and right to work  statutes. The security provision that the cards would provide would be watered down or nullified by lawsuits. The end result would be an amnesty without any enforcement. If SS cards were enhanced with better security, amnesty or CIR would  not be needed. Such a card would be a big deterrent and a serious boost to the process of attrition. Without fraudulent identification, illegal aliens would self deport.

One Week till ‘S.T.O.P. Amnesty in 4 Days’

Chris Chmielenski

Numbers USA

Next weekend, 100,000 pro-amnesty supporters are expected to flood the nation’s capital to show their support for a mass amnesty. NumbersUSA mobilization has stopped every amnesty since 2000, and we’re revving up our resources to do the same this time around.

On Friday, we’ll begin our S.T.O.P. Amnesty in 4 Days campaign, but we’ll need your help to get the job done.

FRIDAY (3/19) — Day 1 is our local nationwide effort. We need you to visit your Member’s local Congressional offices at 1:30 p.m. EDT with a signed letter. If you can make a visit or have any questions, please email Jenny Magyari (JMagyari@NumbersUSA.com) with your name and please, please be sure to include your Congressional district.

SATURDAY (3/20) — Day 2, we’ll launch our faxing and petition campaign. Check your Action Board first thing next Saturday for new faxes to your Members of Congress. When the Members return to their Washington offices, we need them to see your HUGE RESPONSE. It’s also our Social Networking Day, so join us on Facebook and Twitter by clicking on the links to the right.

SUNDAY (3/21) – Day 3, the pro-amnesty organizers will host their rally on the National Mall in Washington D.C., and we’ll be there. We’ll provide a webcast of the day’s events on our homepage. Look for video leading to the event on our website early next week.

MONDAY (3/22) – Day 4, it’s our National Call Campaign, so check your Action Board for new phone notes with talking points. The pro-amnesty supporters will be walking the halls of Congress urging Members to pass an amnesty. So It’s very important to make these phone calls and have the office phones ringing during their visit. We’ll also provide coverage on our website of an immigration panel that Roy will take part in, educating Congressional staffers.

Our message will be simple. Congress should focus on putting 25 million Americans back to full-time work, not offering an amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens, most of whom are in the U.S. workforce. Make sure they hear our message – stay tuned throughout the upcoming week to see what you can do!

All O.C. jails to start checking immigration status of inmates

CINDY CARCAMO

All inmates booked into Orange County jails will have their immigration status checked starting Tuesday morning, part of a national effort to identify and deport people who are in the country illegally and suspected of or convicted for committing crimes.

Called Secure Communities, the program determines whether inmates have had any contact with the immigration system. It flags immigration officials, who can put a hold on those who are believed to be in the country illegally. Those inmates are detained for 48 hours to give immigration authorities a chance to pick them up. Continue reading All O.C. jails to start checking immigration status of inmates

58 suspected illegal immigrants found in Phoenix

Taragana.com

PHOENIX — Authorities say they found 58 illegal immigrants in a west Phoenix drop house Tuesday following a lengthy police pursuit on a state highway.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves says nine suspected illegal immigrants were found in the bed of a truck underneath some plywood after the highway chase, and three more were in the cab of the truck.

Graves says officers developed information from the pursuit and found the drop house, where there were 58 suspected illegal immigrants, including two smugglers and 11 children ages 10 to 17.

The group had been in the house for about a day, and no evidence of violence or extortion was found.

Investigators say most of the immigrants are from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, and they paid around $6,000 each to be smuggled into the U.S.

All were taken into custody.

Homeland Security freezes virtual fence funding

Seattle PI

The U.S. will freeze spending on the Boeing-headed virtual fence along the border with Mexico, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Tuesday.

“The system of sensors and cameras along the Southwest border known as SBInet has been plagued with cost overruns and missed deadlines,” Napolitano said in a statement. “Effective immediately, the Department of Homeland Security will redeploy $50 million of Recovery Act funding originally allocated for the SBInet Block 1 to other tested, commercially available security technology along the Southwest border, including mobile surveillance, thermal imaging devices, ultra-light detection, backscatter units, mobile radios, cameras and laptops for pursuit vehicles, and remote video surveillance system enhancements.”

She said she also is freezing future SBInet funding until an assessment she ordered in January is completed.

U.S. Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., issued a statement Tuesday praising the decision.

“I have been calling for Congressional oversight and Administrative action on this issue since it became clear that SBInet was a complete failure,” he wrote. “I have also consistently advocated for using commercially available technologies because there are numerous areas around the country, most notably within my home state, such as the Goldwater Range, that have put forward an effective security system to detect illegal entry.”

RECLAIM AMERICAN JOBS

For interested parties a new caucus is being formed called , “RECLAIM AMERICAN JOBS.? The American people need to fight back against the illegal immigration occupation, before it too late. Our nation is suffocating under the relentless invasion, that our politicians have ignored for decades. For reasons beyond most peoples understanding, they have blocked any successful way of restriction of foreign nationals that have swarmed into every community in this nation. The numbers from government sources and other biased sources proclaim there are only 10 million, with numbers dwindling. However nobody in there right mind believes these numbers, as they have drudged up consistently over the last 10 years ago, without any change.. Tuscon Border Agency says for every one person, that is apprehended 9 disappear into our country. My guess by that, the numbers are infinitely far more. In the neighborhood of 20 to 30 million. 8 million illegal workers at the least escaping detection in the job market and that’s why we need E-Verify?

Sen. Graham Says President Obama’s Proclaimed ‘Unwavering’ Commitment to Immigration Reform?? ‘Doesn’t Pass the Smell Test’

ABC News

On Thursday President Obama met with Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-NY, and Lindsey Graham, R-SC, who are working on a bipartisan immigration reform bill. Afterwards, the president said his commitment to resolving the issue is “unwavering.”

On “This Week” Sunday, Graham took issue with that,

“The idea that the president has?? been unwavering on immigration doesn’t really pass the smell test,” Graham said. “One line in the State of the Union that was unnoticeable is not?? ‘unwavering.’  A hastily called meeting Thursday because of a rally next?? weekend is not ‘unwavering,’ is CYA.” Continue reading Sen. Dick Armey Stuns His Tea Partiers With Open-Borders Advocacy

Roy Beck

NumbersUSA

For weeks, various grassroots leaders of tea parties have been asking NumbersUSA if there is anything to the rumors that former Congressman Dick Armey is soft on amnesty and the costs of illegal immigration. If he were, that would be an unsettling situation for the vast majority of people at tea party events who oppose both vehemently.

Well, today, Dick Armey settled the question. No need for rumors now.

Mr. Armey — labeled as the “uber-organizer of the tea party movement” by a reporter today — seems to have labeled as “goofy” most of the grassroots citizens attending tea party events.

Armey showed his disdain in a speech at the National Press Club for all those who oppose comprehensive amnesties for millions of illegal aliens and who oppose importing millions of foreign workers during a time of high unemployment.

But this is in keeping with his record in Congress. (See below for a thorough analysis.) Continue reading Dick Armey Stuns His Tea Partiers With Open-Borders Advocacy

Illegal immigration in California front and center

Kimberly Dvorak

The Examiner

With the silly season in full swing, candidates are taking sides in an effort to wrangle enough votes to get or stay in office. California is ripe with many contentious races and the home to the largest Tea Party organization and illegal immigration population.
California’s budget has wallowed in the red the past two years, many tie the root-cause to benefits doled out to illegal aliens. Gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner, a Republican says he will put end to all taxpayer-funded services to undocumented immigrants, including denying their children public education and health care.

“We’re just out of money … and one of the reasons the state’s in trouble is because of illegal immigration,” said Poizner, who claimed California spends more than $10 billion annually on services for illegal immigrants, in an article in the San Francisco Chronicle.
“I’m going to be the truth teller in this campaign. As governor I’m going to stop illegal immigration once and for all,” Poizner, said at the California State GOP convention. Continue reading Illegal immigration in California front and center

Homeland Security official on trial for hiring undocumented worker

Now this is a first for me. The defense attorney says it is not illegal to hire illegal aliens for casual domestic help! I do not remember ever reading any part of the law, that gives exclusions to domestic help.

Jonathan Saltzman

Boston Globe

A former top Homeland Security official from Boston violated the very law she had taken an oath to uphold by encouraging a Brazilian housekeeper who was an illegal immigrant to stay in the country, a federal prosecutor told a jury today.

Lorraine Henderson, who was suspended from her job as regional director of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection after her arrest in December 2008, was caught on a wire secretly worn by the housekeeper, Fabiana Bittencourt, warning her not to leave the US because she would not be let back in, said Assistant US Attorney Diane C. Freniere. The housekeeper was cooperating with authorities.

“Lorraine Henderson violated the same immigration law that she had taken an oath to uphold,” Freniere said in her opening statement to jurors in US District Court in Boston. Bittencourt is among the witnesses expected to testify for the government.

Henderson’s lawyer, Francis J. DiMento, of Boston, opted not to make an opening statment but told US District Judge Douglas P. Woodlock that he may change his mind when the trial resumes tomorrow.

Czars to Serfs: Shut Up, and Pay Up

William Norman Grigg

Lew Rockwell

“If I’m the bad guy to the average citizen … and their taxes have to go up to cover my raise, I’m very sorry about that, but I have to look out for myself and my membership,” grunted Chris Mesley, president of the Albany, New York Police Officer’s Union. “As the president of the `local,’ I will not accept `zeroes’ [no increase in salaries or benefits]. If that means … ticking off some taxpayers, then so be it.”

It would be difficult to find a more candid expression of the parasite class’s predatory contempt for the productive than the words that departed Mesley’s snout. The police union capo will occasionally remove that appendage from the public trough just long enough to spew demands for an ever-larger share of the wealth produced through the honest labor of others, or to justify some corrupt privilege he claims as a “cog in the mighty machine of state.” In all of this he is entirely typical of the army of public employees pillaging what little remains of America’s wealth. U.S. shrugs off sighting of Mexican helicopter

There have been over 200 documented incursions by the Mexican military on to US soil during the last 10 years. NAU?

LYNN BREZOSKY and GARY MARTIN
SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS

BROWNSVILLE — U.S. officials Friday downplayed the sighting of a Mexican military helicopter hovering as long as 20 minutes over a residential area north of the Texas border this week, saying the incursion didn’t cause alarm even though it hadn’t been cleared in advance.

U.S. agencies could offer no reports of a follow-up investigation and no indication whether a Mexican explanation had been asked for or given. Gov. Rick Perry’s office released a statement late Friday, however, saying the state was working with Customs and Border Protection to investigate.

U.S. officials familiar with the incident, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it was not a joint training exercise.

“We made the proper notifications and the helicopter did cross back into Mexico and that was the extent of it, really,” Laredo-based Customs and Border Protection spokesman Rick Pauza said Friday.

Customs officers spotted the aircraft at about 5 p.m. Tuesday about a mile into U.S. airspace over Falcon Heights. The incursion was “brief,” lasting possibly “15 to 20 minutes,” Pauza said.

A spokesman for the Mexican ministry of defense did not immediately respond to an inquiry about the incident.
