Immigration Audits A Smoke Screen

Every morning I scan the web looking for interesting news and oped pieces on illegal immigration. Today the big news in the New York Times  is how the Obama administration is cracking down on illegal alien employers. It seems the usual hype is being made over the fact that a 1000 more companies are being audited by the authorities for illegal employees.  Now on the face, this sounds  like great news. One would gather from the headline that the government is going thru the records, arresting employers and deporting the illegal aliens. Well not so fast, a bit of reading in depth I discovered that is not the case at all.

The audits it seems are being done to force the illegal alien employers to fire those employees who do not have legal documents. So what about the illegal aliens and the law breaking employers? Nothing, nada, zip! As was recently reported on the audit against Minnesota janitorial company  ABM, the illegal employees (all 1200) were fired, but were not detained or rounded up.  The employers were not fined, arrested or charged.

Remember the no match letters that were such an issue a while back? As a reminder, it was a program by which the  Social Security Administration sent out letters informing employers there were problems with an employee’s SSN . Generally the names or other info didn’t match the SSA  information on record.  DHS who was also a part of the letter program added that employers needed to have employees correct the information or the employers would liable for violating immigration laws. Well in the end, the program was halted. The usual suspects were involved clamoring racism and bigotry. Of course the COC was against any kind of enforcement. Now I ask how is the current auditing program any different? Illegal alien employees get fired, are allowed to seek employment elsewhere and employers get off free! No difference at all except letters are much cheaper and not as flashy.

It gets even better. As I continued my morning scan of articles, the next big story was reported by AP. It seems U.S. District Court Judge Linda Reade dismissed the 72 immigration charges against the former manager of the Agriprocessors  plant in Postville Iowa.  Anyone else seeing a pattern develop?

It’s all smoke and mirrors to give the public the illusion that this administration is enforcing immigration laws at the work place. The stage is being set, so this administration can say enforcement is at an all time high and the next logical step is a path to citizenship (amnesty) for illegal workers.

Every American needs to see this for what it is. Another obfuscation by this administration.
